Photo Direction

In addition to being a top-notch dog trainer (if I do say so myself!) I was put in charge for concepting and giving art/photo direction for a few photoshoots for product spotlights. These assets were used primarily for IG/Facebook/Pinterest content.

(You may be able to tell - I have a soft spot for my 130lb slob of a kid…!)

The Meet Cutes

For a 2020 Valentines Campaign for the Pet Central Blog, I was asked to do quite a bit of stylized storybook illustrations, featuring customer-submitted stories about how their pets initiated their relationships!

These assets were used primarily on the Pet Central Blog, but the 1x1 illustrations were posted to IG as well.

Infographics

OK, I’ll level with you - this is a gross one. I created some heartworm/tapeworm infographics for the Pet Central blog. You know - Tapeworm! Heartworm! But make it FASHION.

Rebrand Illustration Exploration

This year I was asked to do some explorations for illustration and how it would fit into Chewy’s upcoming rebrand. The prompt was to make the illustrations not feel too “storybook” or juvenile, but still playful, elevated, and simple enough to be replicated across the team. Here, I’ve attached some ideas on how this style would look and be used across the site in modules and spot illustrations.

Apparel

Approved designs for Chewy’s 2020 Halloween Apparel collection that I designed! Here’s to hoping they print it in XXXL so my big boy can snag one.

Here are some designs I created for the eye-catching top portion of chewy’s emails! These little guys reached millions of customers (myself included!) and I’m proud to have made them.

Misc Chewy Projects

For projects that don’t fall into broader campaigns.

Made up of primarily one-off or two-off social/IG posts or postcards for events.

Vet Q&A

These social assets for IG, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest were created for a social campaign on Chewy’s Instagram! We hired a vet to come onto our facebook story and ask popular viewer submitted questions about pet care.

New Pet Campaign

This campaign was to create assets, primarily for Chewy’s blog site, that ties in with the main site’s New Pet Campaign.

For this, I had to:

  • Illustrate 3 stories of new pet parents fumbling with their new pet’s needs in embarrassing ways (ie: mistaking nipples for diseased bald patches, letting their cats poop all over the house because they didnt have the right litter, and thinking their dog had bloat when he really just got into the pantry and ate all his food when no one was watching). The images that run to bleed are the hero images, while the others will be displayed inline with accompanying copy.

  • Create a stylish way of presenting community-sourced images that tied in with the New Pet Campaign. These were pictures of select pet parents and their pets that accompanied corresponding stories.

  • Creating FLOWCHARTS for blog, to quiz readers on “What Kind Of Pet Parent Are You?” (I’m a Super Parent, obviously.)

Typesetting

Here are some magazine page layouts that I did for three separate issues of a Veterinary magazine.

Hardgoods

Chewy is releasing an option where the customer can build personalized hardgoods (mugs, picture frames, dog bowls, thermoses, etc) with customizable colors/text in accordance with templates that the designers create. These are three of my hardgood “campaigns”!

Of course these designs will be sold in tens of different forms and sizes, but posting mockups of all of them here would get crazy. So! Here are the mug versions of each.

The Melting Pot

I was contracted to create several assets for The Melting Pot's (and their marketing corporation’s) use, including cards, the branding for their Annual Reunion, and several powerpoints/color variations for their use both as a corporate entity and in-store use for meetings and presentations.

Using established logo standards, custom illustrations, and branding elements, I created the branding and templates seen here.

Student Work

I’ve come a long way since my time in UF’s graphic design program, but there are a couple projects that…. although are in need of some real elbow grease in order to look presentable nowadays, still have a special place in my heart. Once you’ve done leatherworking for a project, it’s hard to let it go.

Facehugger Teapot, Ceramic, Spring 2015

Fans of the Alien franchise might recognize the first work: a facehugger from Alien. What isn't shown here -- regrettably, the only image of the work before it partially shattered thanks to a pair of uncaring hands (mine), is that it was actually fashioned into a working teapot. The tail functioning as a handle and the... ovipositor as spout, tea was poured into the vessel by removing the top part of "chitin" between the top forelegs.

Also not shown: the Alien "egg" teacups that came along with it. (I regret accidentally breaking this piece every day of my life... I still have the pieces somewhere, it's just too heavy to work for most standard adhesives. One day... )

Interlock, Ceramic, Spring 2015

The second sculpture was prompted to create interlocking identical shapes. Every time it was put together it was different, but the surface treatments were exciting to work with.
